Draft: Resolve "Beacon async crashes with mixed slow/fast concurrent requests"

Investigate and fix connection pool exhaustion when slow and fast queries run simultaneously. Currently Beacon async fails after ~12 concurrent requests due to slow queries holding pool connections until fast requests time out.
